Last Ever Total Solar Eclipse Will Take Place in 600 Million Years as the Moon Recedes from Earth

https://www.yahoo.com/news/last-ever-to ... 30476.html

Quote:
The moon is currently receding from Earth at a rate of between one and one-and-a-half inches per year. Eventually, when the moon moves far enough away, it will no longer be able to cover the sun in the way it does now.

"Over time, the number and frequency of total solar eclipses will decrease," Vondrak said. "About 600 million years from now, Earth will experience the beauty and drama of a total solar eclipse for the last time.

Wish I had a better source, as Yahoo News articles tend to vanish after some time. Also Yahoo News is overwhelming with intrusive advertising and videos.

Source of the Sasquatch/Eclipse map is Joshua Stevens at NASA's Earth Observatory.

For an Almost Daily Eclipse, Go to Mars

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/li ... o-to-mars/

If you live in Mars's polar latitudes, you'll see a solar eclipse every day.

As Eclipse Madness Sweeps U.S., A Stonehenge Made Of Cars Prepares

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/ ... s-prepares

Quote:
Alliance, with a population of about 8,500, is preparing for a deluge of visitors, including the state's governor, who has announced he will view the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse from Carhenge. Howard says the town is planning concerts, a 30-team softball tournament, a Native American powwow, plus all the churches will put out their best spreads. "There's nothing better than a meal at the church," he says. "Those ladies put out the good stuff."

Eclipse Watchers in California Reportedly Put Sunscreen on Their Eyeballs

https://www.livescience.com/60249-eclip ... balls.html

Quote:
According to KRCR, a local news outlet in Redding, California, a few patients visited a nearby clinic complaining of pain after they put sunscreen on their eyeballs during the eclipse on Aug. 21. They did this because they did not have protective glasses to view the eclipse, KRCR reported.

Sigh...

Solar Eclipses Make Waves in the Atmosphere

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/d-bri ... ses-waves/

Quote:
For the first time, researchers confirmed that that moon’s shadow generates a pair of bow waves in Earth’s ionosphere, similar to the wake a boat leaves as it travels through the water.
