Mercury and Jupiter put on a nice show before sunrise the past three mornings (October 10, 11 and 12, 2016), and remarkably, the weather cooperated nicely. On the 10th, Mercury was 1.7° above Jupiter, on the 11th they were 0.8° apart side-by-side and today, the 12th, Jupiter was 1.7° above Mercury as shown in this picture. Taken from Maple Shade, NJ, at 6:31 am EDT with a Canon 6D digital SLR camera and a Canon 400 mm F/5.6L lens. Exposed 1/80 second at f/5.6, ISO 3200.

On all three mornings, they were both visible with unaided eyes.
