Don't get too excited as this spectacle's best observed outside of North America. :( :( :(

Actually, for observers in our area, there is reason to be excited. Tomorrow morning, Monday, 18-September-2017, Mercury, Mars, the thin crescent Moon, Regulus and Venus will all be within a 12-degree span in a nearly-straight line above the horizon along the nearly-vertical ecliptic before sunrise. Bob King covers this in his article at Sky & Telescope. It will be a terrific sight visually and a great photo opportunity.

I've been out several times already this month, initially to spot Mercury as a part of my ongoing effort to see it at every elongation (43 in a row now), but since the initial spotting on September 4th, it's been fun to watch the planetary movement (and now the moon too) with respect to Regulus.

Unfortunately, the fly in the ointment is the poor weather prospect for Monday morning, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
