On the past two nights, December 25 and 26, 2011, we had a lovely crescent moon after sunset. Here's a view from last night with Venus 7.5 degrees to the left of the moon, with the moon is just under the western tip of the Capricornus stick figure (the star Dabih is just above the moon and the naked-eye double star Algedi is in the upper right corner of the frame):
